Paris in the Spring

Salut! (Hiya!), Postcard for you -- Notre Dame de Paris

(Yup that's us in the photo :). Joe and I scheduled our latest work trips to coincide with each other in Paris, and decided to do a bit of site-seeing the weekend prior. We had never tried any of the famous French restaurants while in Paris or visited many of the museums, so the goal for the weekend was to visit a Guy Savoy (pronounced 'gee se-vua') restaurant and visit Musée d'Orsay.

Had maybe the best scallop dish ever at Les Bouquinistes, and thoroughly enjoyed d'Orsay - although we wished we ate at the cafe at the top of d'Orsay (Cafe des Hauterus - cute setting in front of a huge clock and pretty food) and one of the most famous paintings in the museum (Bedroom at Arles by Van Gogh) was on loan in Seoul, Korea.

If you are headed to Paris to shop, beware that by law no one can work on Sunday unless the place you work has a special license, which usually is a restaurant/store that operates in a touristy area. So do all your shopping on Saturday and leave the big museums for Sunday. A nice jog or stroll through Jardins du Luxembourg in St-Germain is also a good idea on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Joe and I are headed out to Marrakech, Morocco for Easter break on Thursday. We hope for some well deserved R&R and some yummy food. Happy Easter!

Restaurants:
+ NEW! Les Bouquinistes (French, Guy Savoy Bistro) - 53 quai des Grands-Augustins, 75006 - phone: 01.43.25.45.94. Great scallops, let them pick your wine.
+ NEW! Le Baron (Middle Eastern) - Rue de Washington, across the way from the flagship LV store off of Champs-Élysées, blue store front. We randomly found this place last year and went back again because kababs are so yummy. What's different is they add potatoes and lots of peppers in with the meat, and grill the wrap for you so it's nice and toasty.
+ NEW! Georges (Modern European) - Centre Pompidou, 6th Floor - phone: 01.44.78.47.99. Posh and maybe even over the top, but worth a visit to get a great view of Paris without having to wait in line for the Eiffel Tower. Dinner is decent, but a bit overpriced. Would definitely come here for a drink in the summer.
+ L'Absinthe (French) - 24 Place de Marche Saint Honore, 75001 - phone: 01.49.26.90.04
+ Fuxia (Italian) - 42 Place de Marche Saint Honore, 75001 - phone: 01.42.61.45.46
+ Laduree (Macaroons and Tea) - 75 Avenue des Champs Elysees, 75008 - phone: 01.40.75.08.75
+ Higuma (Home-made Ramen) - 163 rue Saint-Honore, 75001 - phone: 01.58.62.49.22
+ Edokko (Sushi) - Next to Higuma. Great sushi, but skip the udon.

Hotel:
+ Le Sénat - 10 rue Vaugirard 75006. About 200 EUR/night. Small, but if what you want is a hotel in St-Germain that has a comfy bed, down duvet, soft towels, and Hermes sundries. Go here!
