Hey everyone! Sorry for the hiatus. It's a bit manic :) As usual I guess. Just came back from Weisbaden, Germany just outside of Frankfurt. Known to be the greenest city in Germany, it's many natural hot springs, and beautiful landscape.

What is an Ironman 70.3? It is a Half Ironman, which consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and 13.1 mile run. 56 mile bike = nap time for Joe's number one fan (that's me!)

Here are the results!
Swim: 1.9k/1.2 miles = 42m
Transition 1: 4m 42s
Bike: 90k/56.1 miles = 3hr 43m
Transition 2: 1m 19s
Run: 21.1k/13.1 miles = 1hr 42m
Total: 6hr 15min

Joe's Race Notes:
Swim
Felt prepared and hydrated. I think my sighting was poor, I was weaving a lot the 2nd half of the swim. Aerobically, I felt fine.

Bike
Felt pretty good considering the 1500+ meters of climbing -- Unbelievable! At 65k mark, there is a 10% grade climb. Took a lot out of me, but pacing was fine since I held back. I know I was going slow because there were tons of athletes passing me. :P It was impossible to keep my heart rate under control. Too many hills!! Also, downhills were brutal. I was almost more scared to go down at such steep inclines at those speeds. The turns were frightening! Overall, beautiful scenery, small towns, and great countryside. The local town people cheered 'Up! Up! Up!' as I rode by.

Run
I was surprised how great my legs felt after the bike. I was cruising the first 8 miles at 150-158 heart rate. The weather was nice and cool, started raining a little, too! The last 4 miles, I really put the jets on and just pushed as much as possible. The run had a long steady hill for the 1st part of each lap (3 laps total). I didn't take my splits, but I'm sure I negative split the run. :)

Wow, good job Joe! I think I'm making it a goal of mine to complete one of these events in the near future.

Starting with a half marathon, of course... :)
